Appliance Fault Codes

What that error code means — and what you can safely check

AEG washing machines (Electrolux group) show E- and EH-number codes. E20/E21 drain faults and E40 door faults are the most commonly reported by owners; the same codes apply to AEG tumble dryers.

AEG washing machine error codes
CodeMeaningSeverityFirst action
E20Drain faultOften fixable at homeThe machine could not drain — water is left in the drum.
E10Water inlet faultOften fixable at homeThe machine did not fill with water, or filled too slowly.
E40Door faultOften fixable at homeThe door is not properly closed or the lock is not engaging, so the programme will not start.
E50Motor faultOften fixable at homeThe motor is not responding as expected — on older AEG machines usually carbon brush wear.
EH3Water level / pressure faultOften fixable at homeThe pressure sensor is reporting an implausible water level — a sensor or tub pressure-hose fault.

Safety first

Unplug before any check. Never open panels beyond the filter flap. Anything involving internal wiring, the heater or gas must go to a professional — see each code page for its "call a professional when" line.
