Appliance Fault Codes

What that error code means — and what you can safely check

Samsung washing machine 5E error code

5E means drain fault. The machine could not drain within the expected time, so water is left standing in the drum. Equivalent older code: 5C (and E2 on some models).

Often fixable at home · Fault type: Electrical/hardware

Safe checks, in order of likelihood

  1. Unplug the machine. Open the debris filter flap at the bottom-front and lay towels down.
  2. Unscrew the filter cap slowly, drain the water, and clear fluff, coins and hair clips.
  3. Check the drain hose is not kinked and the standpipe or sink trap is not blocked.
  4. Run a Drain/Spin programme to confirm the pump runs.
